Day 1
Nicaragua has no shortage of adventure opportunities, especially around Laguna de Apoyo. This exciting weekend package includes a guided hike through the Laguna de Apoyo Natural Reserve, paddle boarding on the Laguna itself, and a visit to nearby Volcán Masaya to see an active volcano up close.
Day 1: Personalized Transfer Service from Airport to Pacaya Lodge and Spa
Arriving at the airport in a foreign country can be a disorienting experience. Not with Pacaya Lodge & Spa, though, as your chauffeur will be waiting for you in uniform and with a personalized sign. We will be happy to load your luggage into our spacious, air-conditioned van. Sit back, enjoy the countryside and relax on the 45-minute ride to our Nicaragua jungle hotel.
Volcán Masaya: An up-close and personal evening with an active volcano
This fascinating evening tour begins with a ride to the Volcan Masaya National Park. You’ll see the volcano’s smoke long before you arrive. Your guide will take you through the park’s museum and interpretation center where you’ll learn about the volcano’s history, mythology, and wildlife. Afterwards you’ll peer into the active volcano and may even see the reflection of lava flowing down below. You’ll be amazed to see chocoyos (parakeets) returning to their nests within the crater and bats leaving their caves to look for food.

Day 2
Hiking and Paddleboarding at Laguna de Apoyo
Today, our Nicaragua jungle hotel will provide you the chance to experience the natural beauty of the Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve through hiking and paddle boarding. The day begins with a guided hike down to the Laguna. On the way down you will learn about the plants and trees of the reserve and possibly see howler monkeys and beautiful tropical birds such as the Guardabarranco, Nicaragua’s national bird. Your paddle boarding guides will be waiting for you down at the Laguna. They have top-of-the-line equipment and can teach you the proper technique if you’ve never paddle boarded before. You will be able to change into your swimsuit at the lakeside facilities. Laguna de Apoyo offers a perfect environment for paddle boarding and has some of the cleanest water in the country. After paddle boarding you’ll be driven back up to the lodge for a relaxing afternoon by the pool. If you’re a little sore, you can always hop in the Jacuzzi.

Enjoy the morning listening to the birds and taking in the fantastic views of Laguna de Apoyo. Feel free to relax by the pool, enjoy the Jacuzzi, or get a quick massage at the Lodge spa before your day of travel. Day 2: Nature in Nicaragua: The Montibelli and El Chocoyero Nature Reserves
The day begins early with a birdwatching tour in the Montibelli private reserve where you may see parrots, hummingbirds, and guardabarrancos (the national bird of Nicaragua) in addition to howler monkeys, reptiles, and other wildlife. You will have a delicious lunch on one of the farms located within the reserve before heading to El Chocoyero.
This reserve is also famous for birdlife, especially the thousands of “chocoyos” (parakeets), who live in the surrounding mountain walls. A comfortable hike through this lush forest will take you to two impressive waterfalls. You will feel like you’re deep in the rainforest despite being only a short distance from Managua.

Day 3
Isla de Ometepe: A Day on Nicaragua’s most famous Island
The twin volcanic peaks of Ometepe have been attracting travelers for years. An early start is necessary to take in all the island has to offer. Your shuttle will take you to the port town of San Jorge where you’ll board a ferry for the one hour cruise across Lake Nicaragua to the island.
You’ll appreciate the mix of rural and island life as we pass through several villages on the way to our first stop, the Ceibo Museum. Here, you will learn about the rich pre-Columbian Indian tribes that inhabited the island for centuries. Next we will stop at the Charco Verde Reserve, known for its rich birdlife, howler monkeys, butterflies, and lush vegetation. After a lakefront lunch at Playa Santo Domingo, you’ll have the chance to take a dip in the “Ojo de Agua,” a natural spring rumored to have special healing properties. We will then head back to the ferry and be on our way back to Pacaya Lodge & Spa.

Horseback Riding and Adventure in Rural Nicaragua
This unforgettable day in rural Nicaragua takes you to Hacienda Los Malacos, a colonial style farm estate set amongst a lush tropical environment. After arriving at the farm you’ll enjoy a horseback ride throughout the property and then take a rowboat tour down a small river to see the monkeys that live on the farm.
You’ll have the option to catch your own fish for lunch, which will be served alongside fresh local produce from the farm. This relaxing day amongst the beautiful scenery is why you come to Nicaragua.

Free day
You may be a little tired after a long day at Ometepe. You can use our complimentary shuttle service to relax lakeside at the Laguna or explore Granada on your own.
We also have a full-service spa if you would like a massage or some of the other therapies on offer. Additional day trips such as a hiking and canopy tour of nearby Volcán Mombacho are available as well. You can move either of the hiking or paddleboarding tours from day 6 to this day, giving you two free half days instead of one free full day.
Day 5
Horseback Riding and Adventure in Rural Nicaragua
This unforgettable day in rural Nicaragua takes you to Hacienda Los Malacos, a colonial style farm estate set amongst a lush tropical environment.
